Automated Librarian Management System controlled by EV3, Arduino Microcontroller and Raspberry Pi SBC

Objective of project

ALS aims to provide much more user experience to the user of the library which targeted the students in the Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Loei. If the result of the study is positive, we will then imply the ALS to the local library to collect valuable information to improve the ALS system as much possible.

Automated Librarian System controlled by software and regulated by Raspberry Pi SBC and EV3 or simply an ALS. ALS is a system that is based on AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) that is used in the Central Distribution Center or CDC. ALS is designed to improve the efficiency of the current librarian system which has relatively low efficiency and slow. ALS has two main sections. First is the mechanical section, and the second is the command and control section.

Our mechanical section of the ALS is based on LEGO which provides the most stability and strength to the infrastructure of the system. The shelf itself and the transportation system of the ALS will be made out of LEGO. Also, some of the EV3 Intelligent Brick will be included in the structure to command the local mechanical structure.

Lastly, our command and control section. Consisted of two sub-systems, which is Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer or Raspberry Pi SBC and LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Intelligent Brick. Two of these boards will communicate with each other to regulate the local mechanical correctly. Raspberry Pi SBC will act as a user interface, responsible for communicating with the user of the ALS. Graphical User Interface or GUI will be implemented to the Raspberry Pi SBC UI to improve the user experience (UX). After the Raspberry Pi SBC had received the command from the user. Raspberry Pi SBC will then send the command into the bridge EV3, which acts as a bridge to communicate between two platforms, and lastly, send to the local EV3. The local EV3 will then cut the communication to prevent the interrupt signal from the stack operating process unless the local EV3 encountered an error. After the process is finished. The local EV3 will then report back to the stack operating process.
