Study on Influence of Soil Conditions on Pwershovel Car

Objective of project

We would like to use vibration information as well as sound in order to develop a more accurate soft sensor. Therefore, we would like to use a 3-axis acceleration sensor among others.

Information of the hard sensor is captured into the computer via devices such as Arduino, data analysis is performed, and a correlation with soil hardness is found out. (At this time, Fourier transform is used.)

An arithmetic expression is createdusing the correlation obtained in ② and written to the device (such as Arduino).

After creating the soft sensor, we would like to improve the accuracy by comparing the value calculated by the soft sensor and the actual value from the hard sensor

As power shovel carries work sites have diversified in recent years, it is becoming increasingly important to grasp the conditions of  the work sites soil.  For example, in the case of a power shovel car, if the situation of the soil is unknown  during the excavation work, work performance may deteriorate due to sudden  acceleration of the arm or excessive load  to the cylinder with a change in the quality of the target soil. This leads to shortening the ifespan of the arm. It is possible to know the state of  the soil by attaching many sensors to the power shovel car, but that is expensive and rather not realistic. Therefore, in this research, we aim to develop a soft sensor which can indirectly grasp the state of the soil based on the information collected beforehand from the sound and the vibrations generated by the engine of the moving power shovel car.
