Seismometer from water wave

Objective of project

to create a seismometer from water wave to solve the problem that constant of spring, and to reduce the cost of import seismometer

The purposes of the study are to create a seismometer from water wave to solve the problem that constant of spring, and to reduce the cost of import seismometer. The operation of the machine is to use the light from the LED to illuminate  the surface of the water that is vibrating due to the force of the earthquake to reflect back to the receiver (LDR), which will change the light into an electrical signal. The electrical signal will be sent to the portable computer via a sound card, and it is displayed on the screen by MATLAB R2015b program. All the equipment will be assembled inside the PVC pipe that contains water.
There are 5 steps in the experiment process. Step 1 is to assemble body structure of the seismometer. Step 2 is to convert the signal from the light wave into an electric wave. Step 3 is to construct a vibration generator from Lego Mindstorm EV3. Step 4 is the calibration calculating formula of the magnitude compared to the magnitude of the vibration generator generated by experimenting with the creation of vibrations with the 4 different magnitude. The calculating formula that is calibrated is R = 3.01(log10A(mm) + 3log10[8Δt(s)] -2.92). Step 5 is a system testing which consists of 2 sub-steps: 1.) a graph showing on the computer screen every time or not 2.) magnitude values calculated from the and display on the computer screen or not.
From the experiment, it was found that calculating formula of the magnitude is calibrated to the magnitude of the vibration generator. This show that the seismometer from water wave can display the magnitude of vibration from earthquake on the screen, and the expense to do this experiment is cheaper than to import seismometer from abroad.
