The development of the system measuring exercise automatically for health management

Objective of project

 This study has developed the system that calculates the calorie consumed by using the exercise device in a fitness class on health management for elderly people.  The system would be helpful to motivate the users to exercise more with informing their results.  The objective is to increase elderly people’s interest in exercise for health management.  In addition, daily exercise leads to keeping a healthy long life.  In Japan which is a super-aging society, it is an urgent necessity to reduce Japanese people’s payment for National Health Insurance.  Considering this situation, it is expected that elderly people have a long and healthy life as much as possible.  From this point of view, this system would be useful.

Twelve kinds of exercise devices in this system are placed in a circle and can be used at the same time.  They are used in thirty seconds per one person in exercise.  A wireless communication device and a sensor that measures speed are attached to a movable position of each device.  Note that the placement is considered so that they would not be obstacles for the users.  These devices are called exercise a measurement device in this study.  The information about how much a user exercises are calculated by measured speed and transmitted to one device, which is named as the device for gathering information.  In addition, another device with the wireless communication device and an IC reader is placed near the exercise device.  This is called the users checking device in this study.  All the users have wristbands with IC chips and can get their IDs given in the IC chips by holding them over the users’ checking device.  The IDs are transmitted to the device for gathering information.  Since the correspondence of each ID and user is registered in the device for gathering information in advance, it is easy to know the information about who uses, which exercise is used, and when it is used.  Moreover, the sum of calorie consumption by calculating calorie consumption with the information of speed in the exercise device can be known.  In the end, it is expected that the users could be motivated when told their results.
